What You Need To Know Before You Order Truck Parts Online

by Aubree Richardson

Being a do-it-yourself mechanic can save time and money, but it may not be so cost efficient when you order truck parts online. There are hundreds of ways that you can go wrong from ordering the wrong part number to ordering entirely the wrong part. Before you sit down and begin to fill your online shopping cart, consider what you need to know about ordering your truck parts online.

Manufacturer Versus Owner Refurbished Parts

You may think you found a great deal on truck parts that are labelled as refurbished. These deals can be great, but you need to know if it was a manufacturer refurbished piece or an owner refurbished piece. Manufacturer refurbishments will likely have a warranty, or at the very least a certificate stating the part was refurbished to factory standards.

An owner refurbished part will have either have a limited warranty or no warranty. It may also be sold as an as-is part and not guaranteed to work with your vehicle. Make sure to read the fine print on any sales that list refurbished as the condition of the part.

You Will Need The Specific Part Number

You may already know the part you need and the make and model of the truck that you need it for. What you may not know is the specific part number. You will need the number in order to make sure you are getting the right part for your vehicle. Part numbers align with not only the make and model of your truck, but also for a specific year or series your truck belongs to. If you go off just the make, model, and part name you could end up with a part that can't be returned or exchanged and won't work for your truck needs.

Return and Refund Policies

Make sure that the company you purchase the truck parts from has a return and refund policy for your part. Also, consider the return and refund policies carefully. If the return policy is a short amount of time, you may not have time to receive, test, and return the part if it doesn't fit or work. Make sure that you understand the return policy, exchange policy, and refund policy before you buy.

These are just a few things you should know before you purchase replacement truck parts online. If the company you are buying parts from is local or has a local office, consider visiting the office to get your part or calling to ensure they have the part you actually need in stock.
