Tips for Relocating Your Construction Company

by Aubree Richardson

Relocating your construction company takes quite a bit more planning than just a standard office relocation. Not only do you need to think about the equipment and supplies in your office, but you also need to consider your construction tools, equipment, and any jobs you are not done with yet. Here are some tips for relocating your construction company.

Insure Everything First

Before you do anything, make sure everything is properly insured before the move. You are moving a lot of expensive tools and equipment, so the last thing you want to do is have to replace them because of an accident that occurred while they were being transported. Whether you are moving equipment on your own or hiring a professional to do it, it is really important that you have proper insurance for these expensive items.

Hire Professional Movers

For the items in your construction business office, it helps to hire professional movers. This allows you to spend more time on other aspects of the relocation and to keep up with your daily work responsibilities, while the movers pack up everything and get it moved to the new office. Full-service movers do the packing, moving, and unpacking, so you won't have to worry about any of this.

Have Workers Move in Groups

One of the difficulties with moving a construction company is that you typically have multiple jobs going on at one time. If you are moving out of the area or even to the other side of the country, you can't just stop a job halfway through for the move. A better option is to select workers to stay behind and others to move. Move a small group of workers at a time if everyone is planning on relocating with you. Leave behind enough workers to finish the current jobs you are finishing up, then have others move with you to the new location before you start new jobs. This staggering system keeps you from having to stop your work entirely during the relocation.

Plan on Machinery Transport

Regular movers will probably not be able to handle moving the big machinery and equipment you have for your construction company. You will need to hire roadside assistance that moves large machinery, such as your tractors, loaders, and excavators. It is highly recommended that you not attempt to move these on your own as it is a risky job and a lot of work.
