Caravan Sale: Where?

by Aubree Richardson

The thought of a new caravan is an exciting one. The caravan itself might not be new, but you might be looking for one that is new to you.

Your local dealership must have come to mind when you first thought of getting a caravan. Dealerships are a popular route to caravan ownership, but they are not the only route. Here are three other places you might want to look in your search for a used caravan.

The Caravan Manufacturer

Not many people think of getting a caravan from the manufacturer. However, caravan manufacturers may have refurbished caravans on offer from time to time. Many times, they do this to get rid of caravan models that may have been recalled or caravans that may have suffered superficial damage when they were being assembled.  The damaged components in these caravans are replaced with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) spare parts before the caravan is given a paint-job for the much needed face-lift.

You can get a great bargain from the caravan manufacturer, but you might have to travel a bit. Caravan manufacturers will often operate from one central location and that's why they'll use dealerships to distribute their product. This central location could be several hundred miles away from you.

From An Auctioneer

Auctioneers are often frowned upon due to the nature of their business. Some people see them as heartless because they seize/repossess people's property.

But auctions aren't a bad thing, and it doesn't disqualify the fact that you can get a used caravan that's in good condition from an auctioneer. Caravans are not commonly sold at auctions. Thus, it's unlikely that a random seller will want to get rid of their run-down caravan through an auction. They'll probably take it to an automobile recycler, who is likely to make a better offer for the RV.

If you can get past the slight discomfort often associated with auction sales, this might be a viable route to RV ownership.

From Overseas

A used caravan might be cheaper in an overseas country, but the additional cost of getting the caravan into Australia overshadows the perceived cost savings, especially since a caravan is quite large.

Importing a caravan might only be a viable option if you have a specific model in mind and if that model is not available locally.

Your excitement at the thought of a new caravan is more than expected. Evaluate your options wisely.
